We had the opportunity to hang out with Warped Tour and Mayhem Festival founder, entrepreneur and all around good dude Kevin Lyman recently. He shared his thoughts on why he still loves discovering new bands, his newest endeavor The Entertainment Institute, and why he keeps coming back to the Driven Music Conference.
Lyman’s tours have helped break some of the hottest emerging artists over the last 20 years including No Doubt, Blink 182, Fall Out Boy and Eminem to name a few. He’s a visionary when it comes to music and live events. He knows what’s trending, he knows how to put on a great show and he’s willing to take risks. He trusts his instincts and ear and will take chances on artists he thinks will break next.
He has partnered with some big brands like Vans, Journey’s and Rockstar Energy Drinks to fuel his touring music machine and further help define youth culture. When you walk into his office you not only see the posters, autographed skate boards, artist records and memorabilia on the walls, you can feel the passion he and his team have for this business. They live it, breathe it and be it everyday. Now in it’s 21st year, Warped Tour has given Lyman the means to create new avenues for artist discovery, education and next level thinking. He continues to give back to the music community and has come a long ways since his days as a stage manager.
