Modern R&B pop-soul sensibility with an incredible ear for composition, Blood Orange is refreshing.
Devonte’ Haynes also known as Blood Orange has produced, played, or written songs for A$AP Rocky, FKA Twigs, Florence and The Machine, and Carly Rae Jepsen to name a few.
He is one of those artists that has been quietly behind major hits much like Sia, Bruno Mars, and Butch Walker were before stepping out from behind the curtain and onto the stage.
Blood Orange is releasing his 4th album Negro Swan on Domino Records and is in good company with label mates like Arctic Monkeys and The Kills. Meanwhile, Prince is smiling down from above as pop-infused rhythm and blues is alive and well.
“My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color. A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all,” – Haynes says.
The lead single “Charcoal Baby” is an immersive, feel-good track that overcomes self-doubt and insecurity through melody and togetherness. The vocal harmonies are smooth, delicious, and invite you to each chorus. We think you’ll enjoy Blood Orange as much as we do.
